Citric acid supplied as a 50% solution, which removes the dissolving step and the dust exposure that come with the dry product.
Typical uses
- Citric acid passivation of stainless steel per ASTM A967 — increasingly specified in place of nitric
- Chelation and removal of iron, calcium, and other metal deposits
- Boiler and heat exchanger cleaning
- Membrane and RO system cleaning
- Food and beverage acidulation, at food grade
- Household and industrial cleaner formulation
Why it is replacing nitric for passivation
Citric passivation achieves comparable results to nitric on most stainless grades while eliminating the oxidiser hazard, the fuming, and a nitrate waste stream that is expensive to discharge. Where a specification permits it, the total cost is usually lower even when the chemical costs more.
