Isopropyl alcohol at 99% minimum, available technical and USP.

Typical uses

  • Precision cleaning in electronics and optics — it evaporates without residue
  • Final rinse and displacement drying after aqueous cleaning
  • Surface preparation before bonding, coating, or printing
  • Solvent in formulation and extraction
  • Disinfectant base, at appropriate grade and dilution

99% or 70%

Counter-intuitively, 70% is the more effective disinfectant — water is required for the alcohol to penetrate cell walls, and 99% evaporates too fast to maintain contact time. Use 99% where residue-free drying is the objective, and 70% where the objective is killing something. We supply both.

Handling

Flammable, with a flash point around 12 °C (53 °F) — well below room temperature, so the vapour above an open container is ignitable at all normal working temperatures. Bond and ground when transferring, keep away from ignition sources, and store in an approved flammable liquids cabinet or room.

Vapour is heavier than air and travels along the floor to a distant ignition source. That is how most alcohol fires actually start.

Documents

Safety data sheets and certificates are available to account holders. Request one below and we send it the same business day — or ask us to attach documents to every shipment automatically so you are not requesting them one at a time.

Read the sheet before the first use

Section 2 covers the hazards, Section 8 the protective equipment actually required, and Section 10 what this must not be stored next to. Storage incompatibility is the single most common cause of serious chemical incidents. How to read an SDS
