CF-1 is a trivalent chromium passivate developed to replace hexavalent chromate conversion coatings without re-engineering the line.
Why replace hexavalent
Hexavalent chromium is restricted under RoHS and ELV, is a confirmed carcinogen, and carries a waste treatment burden that is expensive and getting more so. Most customers who switch do so because a customer specification forced it — and then find the waste treatment savings alone justified the change.
Typical operating conditions
- Concentration: 3–8% by volume
- pH: 1.8–2.2
- Temperature: 70–100 °F
- Immersion: 30–60 seconds
- Substrate: acid and alkaline zinc, zinc-nickel, zinc-iron
Finish and performance
Produces a clear to blue iridescent finish. Salt spray performance is specification-dependent — tell us the requirement you are being held to and we will tell you honestly whether CF-1 meets it on your substrate, rather than after you have converted the line.
Line trials
We support conversion with a line trial and panel testing before you commit a production tank. Changing a passivate is not a drop-in change and we would rather de-risk it than sell a drum that comes back.
