Hydrogen peroxide at 35% in technical and food grades.

Typical uses

  • Wastewater oxidation, including sulfide and cyanide destruction
  • Bleaching in textile and pulp processes
  • Aseptic packaging sterilisation, at food grade
  • Etching and cleaning in electronics, at appropriate grade
  • Advanced oxidation processes, often with UV or ozone

Why it is chosen

Peroxide decomposes to water and oxygen. There is no chloride, no sulfate, and no persistent residue to deal with downstream — which is frequently the deciding factor where discharge limits are tight.

Handling

It decomposes on contact with metals, dirt, and organic material, and that decomposition is exothermic and generates oxygen. In a sealed container that means pressure. Vented closures are required, and a peroxide container must never be sealed tight or returned to a drum after removal.

Store in vented HDPE or passivated aluminium, away from heat and combustibles. Never return unused product to the original container — contamination that would be harmless in most chemicals starts a runaway decomposition here.

At 35% it causes severe eye damage and skin burns that whiten the skin on contact. Rinse immediately and at length.
