It behaves much like caustic soda but produces potassium salts rather than sodium salts, which is the deciding factor in most applications that specify it.<\/p>\n<h2>Where it is specified over caustic soda<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Liquid detergent and soap manufacture, where potassium soaps stay soluble<\/li>\n<li>Electroless and electrolytic plating baths requiring potassium chemistry<\/li>\n<li>Agricultural and fertiliser applications where potassium is wanted in the effluent<\/li>\n<li>Formulations where sodium would precipitate or cause scaling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Handling<\/h2>\n<p>Corrosive to skin and eyes, exothermic on dilution, and incompatible with acids, aluminium, and zinc \u2014 the same precautions as caustic soda apply.
